Cantiere NEWPORT OFFSHORE SHIPYARD

History

  Newport Offshore Marine was a builder based in the heart of old Newport (Rhode Island, east coast of the United States) and was dedicated to the production of One Off sail designed from time to time tailored according to the needs of the owners, as well as sailing competition hulls, mainly intended for the America's Cup. The shipyard was directed by Andrew (Andy) Mac Gowen made use of highly respectable collaborations, from German Frers for the design (of 52 and 59 foot boats) to Boeing Aircraft and North American Rockwell for technological developments.   The NewportOffshore Marine shipyard built I.O.R. boats like Intuition and Yeoman XXIII. Among the boats produced by Newport Offshore that participated in the America's Cup are Spirito f America for Conner, and Defender for Blackaller. Behind the fame of Newport Offshore was the use of sophisticated aeronautical derivation construction techniques, developed and applied for the first time for boats.
